My Past, Their Future

Our Mayor is set to close 11 Libraries tomorrow with no plans to reopen them. Out cry from the masses has fallen on deaf ears so we are all SOL. I grew up visiting the Holmesburg library constantly and I don't know if I would be here today without it. I took part in the summer reading programs and loved having access to so many books for free. I fear for our city's future.

Its happening in DE also. They stopped having Sunday hours at the libraries and reducing hours all over. Now DAS Wilm needs to meet on another day or another location..the economy sucks!

Yes, but that's different then closing 11 of our library location. Not to belittle your situation but this freaking sucks.

I know its not the same but at this rate I wouldn't be surprised if they started closing some of the northern DE libraries too. *hugs* And sorry, I keep forgetting who I'm logged in as and comment on my regular friend list with my RPG journal. oops XD

Naw, it's cool :p BTW:
Stirred by Mayor Nutter's proposal to close 11 branch libraries, the opponents came tumbling off the shelves of Philadelphia society - rich, poor, black, white, homeschoolers from the Northeast, young anarchists from West Philly.
Then, astoundingly, they won. At least for now.
A judge's ruling Tuesday forced Nutter to get City Council approval or a court order to implement his plan to save $36 million by 2013 through closing the branches. Nutter called the ruling an assault on the City Charter's strong-mayor form of government and said he would appeal.
